Great question—and yes, this is exactly the failure point we designed out of our current bench range. Many older street benches use wide gaps between slats for drainage, but those 10–12 mm openings are perfect heel traps. Our slatted benches use a maximum 5 mm spacing between seat slats. That is narrower than a typical stiletto tip, so heels, cane tips, and even small umbrella points cannot drop through. We also add a slight bevel on the underside of each slat, so there is no sharp edge to catch a heel if someone slides their foot across the seat. For high-traffic areas or places with formal dress, we recommend our closed-top models: the seat surface is solid, and rainwater drains through hidden channels underneath instead of exposed gaps. If you are comparing options, the key spec to look for is the gap width. Anything under about 6 mm is generally heel-safe for most footwear.
