I get this question a lot, and the short answer is yes: you can order street benches with armrests, and you can also get benches without armrests. Armrests are usually an optional feature, not a fixed one, so the choice really comes down to your space and how people will use the bench.
If you want armrests, they are a great choice for public outdoor seating. They give people something to push against when standing up, which is especially helpful for older adults or anyone with limited mobility. They also divide a bench into individual seats, which can discourage people from lying down across the entire bench. Many parks, transit stops, and storefront areas choose armrests for that reason.
If you prefer a bench without armrests, that is completely doable. A clean, open bench looks more minimal, makes it easier to slide in and out from any side, and can fit more people in a pinch. It is also easier to clean because there are no extra joints or brackets.
Most of our commercial street benches are built to order, so adding or removing armrests does not mean you have to settle for a lower-quality frame or finish. You can still choose the seat material, length, color, and mounting option at the same time. If you need a mix, many customers install a few benches with armrests and a few without in the same area.
If you are not sure which direction to go, tell me where the benches will be placed and who will mainly use them. I can recommend a custom bench option that works for your site.
