Great question — and the short answer is both, depending on the model you choose. We design our street benches in two main ways: solid-base benches for maximum durability and hidden-compartment benches for communities that need extra storage without adding outdoor clutter.
Solid-base benches are the more common option. They typically have a cast concrete, steel, or reinforced aluminum base that is completely sealed. This makes them heavy, stable, and less attractive to pests or vandals. Because there are no moving parts or access panels, they also tend to require less maintenance over time. If you are furnishing a park, transit stop, or busy streetscape and just need reliable seating, a solid base is usually the best value.
That said, we do offer street benches with hidden compartments. These are not visible from the outside, but the seat or one side of the base lifts or unlocks to reveal a weather-resistant storage area. They are popular with business improvement districts, campuses, and HOA communities. Maintenance teams use the space for tools, trash bags, event signage, bike locks, or seasonal cushions. The compartments are lockable, and we add drainage holes so water does not pool inside after rain.
So which one should you choose? If you want a clean, tough bench and do not need storage, go with a solid base.
