Common Problems and Effective Solutions for urban benches

Do your street benches have a non-slip surface when wet?

You know that moment—you’re out walking, a sudden shower rolls through, and the nearest bench looks like the perfect spot to wait it out. But just as you’re about to sit, you hesitate. Will my shoes lose grip? Will the seat be slick and treacherous? I’ve been there too, and honestly, it’s one of the first things we thought about when designing our street benches.

So, let me give you a straight answer: yes, our street benches are built with a non-slip surface that works even when they’re soaking wet. We aren’t just saying that either. The seating surface isn’t a smooth, polished slab that turns into a slip-and-slide the second moisture hits it. Instead, we use a fine-textured powder-coated steel or anodized aluminum with a subtle grain. If you run your fingers over it, you’ll feel a slight drag, almost like extremely fine sandpaper that’s still comfortable to sit on. That texture is intentional—it gives shoes and clothing just enough friction to stop any sudden slides.

On top of the material itself, we’ve added a series of shallow, laser-cut drainage channels running across the seat and backrest. These aren’t just a design statement. They let rainwater flow straight off the bench instead of pooling in a thin, slick film. Even in a downpour, you’ll see the water bead up and drain away almost instantly, leaving the textured surface doing its job without interference. I’ve personally tested these benches with wet sneakers, and the difference compared to a standard smooth metal seat is night and day.

We also treat the metal with a UV-stable, matte powder coat that doesn’t get gluey under heat or turn glassy when cold and damp. That layer adds another dimension of grip, sort of like how a matte phone case is easier to hold than a glossy one. The finish ages gracefully too—after seasons of rain, frost, and sun, it stays consistently grippy rather than wearing smooth.

If you’re thinking about spots near pools, marinas, or in constantly misty climates, we even have a “seaside” variant where the texture is taken up a notch with embedded silica particles in the coating. It’s the same concept as anti-slip deck paint but refined to feel pleasant under bare skin or light summer clothes.

I’m not pretending that physics stops existing—ice can still form, and slimy moss buildup will make anything slippery if the bench sits neglected under a tree for years. But under normal wet weather conditions, you can trust the bench to keep you steady. Next time you’re caught in the rain, grab a seat without worry. We’ve literally got your back.
