It will weather to a gorgeous silver-grey over time and, because of the wood species we select, it won’t turn spongy or black with fungus. A soft scrub with water and a stiff brush once a season keeps it splinter-free, which is often the biggest actual trigger for skin irritation with outdoor wood—not the wood itself, but micro-splinters and trapped pollen. Unfinished cedar, for instance, actually breaks down pollen residues more quickly in rain than a film-sealed surface does.
Allergies are so personal, so I never deal in empty guarantees.
